To us, adoption is more than the urgency of placing an animal within any home, it is about determining the right fit for the animal, and the right fit for the family, in order to find a forever home. In many cases, these animals have experienced trauma or abandonment before coming to the sanctuary and safety of Blue Chip Farm.

Bio: Representing our long-term/lifer cats is Hank! He is a senior boy who has chosen Blue Chip as his home. He has had a few failed adoptions, always returning to the shelter without batting an eye. He is the King of our Kitty Kottage, truly ruling the roost. He can be rude to the other cats, so most choose to avoid him. He can be rude to humans, but our volunteers have all formed bonds with him and he adores them in return. He will do absolutely anything for a piece of food, always assisting our volunteers when it is time to feed. He is very happy being the King and while he is not on our unadoptable list, we do not see him going anywhere. He has quite the personoity and everyone here adores him (except our veterinarians!).

Bio: George came to us after his owner suffered from a life changing stroke. He arrived very scared and did not trust us. He now loves our daily volunteers, needing time to trust new humans. He is very fearful of men, but does well with women. He does well with other dogs while on walks but does not seem to enjoy sharing his home with them. He does well with cats! He was born with bad hips and is on daily supplements to help his joints. He did visit a specialist with us who did not recommend surgery. He does well on leash and has a lot of puppy energy/tendencies! He would excel with an owner who has experience with fearful dogs.

Bio: Hannah came to us as a stray and was never claimed. Later we found out that the person who brought her in as a stray was actually her owner. She is a quirky dog, needing time to trust new humans. She has a huge personality and is super fun to be around once she trusts you! She has a lot of energy and loves to run in our yards. She seems to be afraid of a lot of things, so a home that can help her build her confidence and help socialize her would be perfect. She has the potential of living with another dog, but would need numerous meet and greets to help her trust them.

Bio: Remington was surrendered to us after he and his father started to fight. His owner made the decision to surrender Remington since he was the younger of the two. Remington can be wary of new humans, warming uo to men faster! He is a very goofy and loyal dog who loves to play! He has a super funny personality, all he needs is some time to warm up to you. He has done well with other large dogs, but would do best with no small dogs. He loves to run around in the yard and go for walks. He enjoys car rides and loves to be with his people. He is a very intelligent dog and learns quickly. We can not believe that he has been with us for so long!

Bio: Sable/Bella was surrendered to our shelter due to an infection that was casuing her body to shut down. Her owners did not want to pay for the exploitory tests needed and were choosing to euthanize her. At the time she was only 9 months old and thankfully the emergency clinic contacted us to save her. She is an incredibly affectionate and loyal dog once she trusts you. She does take time to adjust to new humans and becomes protective of her people. She is not a fan of other animals, but makes up for that with all of the love that she devotes to her humans. She loves to relax outside in our yards and loves to play. She enjoys walks and is very good in the car. She loves with all of her heart and it is upsetting seeing her wait for a home for so long. She would make the perfect companion for the right home!

Bio: Diesel was surrendered to our shelter due to biting a child in his home. He resource guards his items and needs someone who understands this. He does allow you to play with his toys once he is fully bonded to you. He does enjoy “alone time” and will let you know when he does not want to be bothered. He loves to walk around and hang out in the yards, he is very content keeping himself busy. He LOVES jolly eggs and heavy duty toys. He is a very affectionate dog once he trusts you. He needs time to adjust to new humans and patience. He does well with other dogs, he loves to play with them. He is dominant with other dogs at times and can be protective of his toys around them. He loves going for walks and does have a great, goofy personality - all he needs is time to trust.

Bio: Pete came to us from a southern kill shelter. We pulled him from the euthanization list with the help of our rescue partners. He has been adopted a few times, none of the homes ended up working out. He is a typical hound - loud, aloof, and independent. He prefers being by himself over being around people. He loves to run around in the yard, he would spend all day outside if he could. He does not always like affection, so our volunteers let him be when he wants to be alone. He enjoys going for walks and always makes his presence known when first leaving the kennel area! He would do best as the only animal due to resource guarding, unless you have hound experience and can handle his quirks with other dogs around. Absolutely no cats or small animals.

Bio: Murphy was an owner surrender. He suffers from severe skin allergies, needing special food and baths. He is picky with his people, but if he bonds to you - he absolutely loves you. He is very low level, liking to keep to himself and relax. He is very well trained and would be happy to just hang out around the house. He enjoys car rides and absolutely loves his crate. He takes time to adjust to new people, we are not sure what his entire past was like to cause this.

Bio: Millie is a fearful dog. When she first came to us, we were unable to touch her and she was extremely overweight. She would bite if you attempted to touch her neck and was afraid of every single thing. She has overcome a great amount of fears and absolutely adores all of our volunteers. She is still fearful of new people and is not comfortable with you touching her neck until bonded, but the amount that she has overcome is incredible. She is a very affectionate and loyal dog. She loves to run around and go for walks, a fenced yard is required for her. She does well going on walks with other dogs, but would prefer being the only animal in her home as she does get jealous and protective of her owner. She is actively working with a trainer to continue her progress, as well as our volunteers dedicating their time to helping her become the best that she can be. Her perfect home has to be out there!

Bio: Hippo was abandoned in an apartment when his owner was evicted. He was sent to his local SPCA, where we pulled him and brought him to our shelter. He arrived with most of his hair missing, but it has grown back beautifully. He loves to be around people, we are not sure how he would do with children. He loves to play, go for walks, and just hang out. He has a huge personality and is hysterical to spend time with!

Bio: Hawk was thrown from a vehicle and left to fend for himself. He spent over 2 months in the woods before he entered the trap. He arrived incredibly scared, but always sweet. He is now much more social and he loves people and most other dogs. Due to his past, he has separation anxiety. He requires a heavy duty cage (that we will include with adoption) for him to stay in when left alone. He is extremely affectionate and loves giving hugs. He is a great dog!

Bio: Chopper originally came to us as a young, energetic, happy-go-lucky puppy. He was adopted and returned a few years later as a scared, defensive, and un-trusting dog. While we do not know what happened during his time away from the shelter, he was unable to overcome his past and has strong trust issues with humans. He will do absolutely anything for a toy, he loves tennis balls and squeaky balls more than anything. He enjoys spending time in our fenced areas and being walked by his main volunteer. While his trust is not strong in humans, he is always ready for breakfast, snacks, and dinner - regardless of who they’re from!

Bio: Brady was originally named Whiskey. He belonged to an abusive owner for the first few years of his life. He was adopted from our shelter and returned due to increasin aggression that was caused by his original home. Brady is a very fearful dog which shows through fear aggression. He has a few extremely dedicated volunteers who adore him and show him all of the love in the world. They are able to handle him and keep his life as normal as possible. He loves going for walks and rolling around on the pavement and grass. While he does not always like to be touched, he has a great time simply being with his volunteers. He is a senior boy now and is enjoying his golden years surrounded by as much love as possible here at the shelter.

Bio: Moose was surrendered to us after developing aggression. He was a product of a breeder attempting to breed white Boxers, but took it too far and ended up having a litter of deaf puppies. Moose was rehomed and the person who took him starved him almost to death. He was removed from that home and developed behavioral issues as he began to put his weight back on. He does not trust humans, but does have two volunteers in particular whom he adores. While he attempts to bite when frustrated, he was bred poorly and his snout is wrongly proporationed - making it so he can only bruise you. He has a quirky personality and likes to test you, but he is also very entertaining and goofy. He knows his basic hand signal commands and listens well to those he semi-respects. He is definitely happy, well loved, and spoiled!

Bio: Tito is a dog that spent his first two years of life abused. He was crated constantly and developed severe anxiety. He used to spin circles all day everyday, the smallest noise would set him off. He was petrified of people, slowly learning how to trust. He had a small group of volunteers that at one point were able to handle him, but as the shelter grew and Tito aged, his trust began to disappear. He loves to sunbathe and sniff around in the grass. He enjoys yelling at our volunteers, but listens very well when being interatced with through the kennel. Him and his buddy Moose get along well, most likely because Moose is deaf and can not hear Tito’s rants. He loves to eat and always knows exactly when breakfast & dinner are served. He loves to play fetch. He has been with us for 10 years and seems to be enjoying himself.

Bio: Koda was originally brought to us after he was thrown from a moving vehicle in Nay Aug park. The couple that witnessed this incident was able to earn his trust and bring him to our shelter for safety. Shortly after arriving, Koda began to display some behavioral issues. He spent a few months at the shelter before being adopted, biut was returned due to his behvaioral issues not being solved. He is a very un-trusting dog, petrified of having his neck touched. While our volunteers have tried to show him how to enjoy human interaction, he is not a fan of it. We allow him to have time in the yards as much as possible, as he loves to ruin around and play. Koda is in his own little world, but he seems pretty content and happy with that. We are trying to keep him as happy, comfortable, and content as possible.

Bio: We do not know much about Benji’s past, but we have to assume that it was not wonderful. He came into our care after state police found him in an abandoned home. His owners never came forward or were found, but neighbors of the home confirmed that his name is Benji. He does not trust easily and becomes very defensive when afraid or unsure of what is going on around him. He was adopted once and returned, he has remained at the shelter since. He was diagnosed with Mid-stage Retinal Degeneration in 2017, meaning he would become close to fully blind within 2 years of the diagnosis. His eyes are now cloudy, but he does seem to stil see shapes/outlines. He is a very well behaved boy in his kennel and enjoys yard time a few times a day. He does have a volunteer that he trusts enough to walk and pet him, the others he prefers to interact with through his cage. We are keeping him as happy and comfortable as possible.

Bio: Aries originally belonged to a couple that eventually split up. Aries remained in the man’s care, where he was being beaten daily. Neighbors saw what was going on and contacted the woman from the relationship who decided to remove Aries from the home. She was unable to keep him so she chose to tie Aries to a tree in a local park, hoping someone would find him and take him home. He was found by a family that decided to take him home, but after a few weeks his past trauma was causing behavioral issues in his new home. They surrendered him to our shelter, where he was adopted out numerous times but always returned due to the behavioral issues developed. He is extremely protectrive of his people and it takes a long time for him to trust new humans. He resource guards and often enjoys “alone time” - he has many ques to show you when he needs his space. At this stage, his friend circle has closed and he is content with his group of volunteers. He has a main person who he trusts with all of his heart. She is able to take him places and keep his life as normal as possible. He is a very loyal and affectionate dog as long as he trusts you. We adore him here and he is definitely spoiled!
